Victorians Encouraged to Get Active, More Often, At Home
Victorians of all ages and abilities are being encouraged to get active now more than ever, with the Victorian Government launching a new campaign to keep active and healthy during the coronavirus pandemic.
Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence today launched the initiative, Get Active Victoria, including an online platform with free workout videos, challenges and ideas to get moving at home.
AFLW Demons star Daisy Pearce and Australian cricket captain Meg Lanning have also created online challenges for Get Active Victoria to provide some extra inspiration to get everyone moving.
With 80 per cent of children and more than 50 per cent of adults in Victoria not doing the recommended amount of physical activity, the Victorian Government is ramping up efforts to ensure everyone has the chance to flex their muscles throughout the current Stage 3 and 4 restrictions.
From Afro Dance to a juggling challenge, the Get Active Victoria website provides workouts, challenges, and tools to motivate and support Victorian families. There are workouts for all levels that range from 10 minutes to 30 minutes with little or no equipment needed. Participants can focus on strength, cardio, flexibility, and other options.
An activity tracker allows participants to monitor how much activity they are doing each day, and teams can also be created online.
New features will be added to the website progressively including challenges created by participants while a mobile app is in the works. Planning is also under way for events that will take Get Active Victoria to the community in 2021 with support from key partners.
Get Active Victoria is available now at getactive.vic.gov.au and is great way to connect with family and friends, support each other and inspire more Victorians to get moving.

Happy International Youth Day
International Youth Day has a different tone this year. The 2020 theme of Youth Engagement for Global Action could not be more relevant. While every year we see young people pushing for better and advocating for our communities – this year, we truly see and feel our youth as the pillars of not only our future, but our present.
Victorian young people are on the frontlines of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic as essential workers. They are pushing innovation in online education. They are acting as translators of information between generations. They are holding space for people facing unspeakable loss and they are uplifting our communities at a magnitude that we have never seen before.
On this International Youth Day, I urge you to take a moment to stop and look around. Firstly, to acknowledge the young people in your world that make it a better place. Secondly, to acknowledge any space that you hold and think about how you could use it to uplift a young person.

So, here’s to you, the person reading this message. Whether you are a youth voice enabler as a parent, guardian or champion for youth, a young person pushing for better or someone who is doing the best they can with what they have. I am grateful to you and what you do for our community.
You are what makes the difference by striving to create a Victoria where all young people can thrive.
If you are a young person reading this message, I want you to know that you are valued and important.
This is not an easy time, navigating and trying to make sense of what is going on around you while trying to support your communities and yourself. Please know that your feelings are valid. You are making a significant mark in this world by doing what you are already doing.
Happy International Youth Day. This year 2021 Victoria Government theme International Youth Day is centered around the role young people play in creating a sustainable future.

CELEBRATIONS AND CONGRADUALTIONS
Happy 75th Independence Day to our Indian colleagues and friends

Independence Day of India, which is celebrated religiously throughout the Country on the 15th of August every year, holds tremendous ground in the list of national days, since it reminds every Indian about the dawn of a new beginning, the beginning of an era of deliverance from the clutches of British colonialism of more than 200 years. It was on 15th August 1947 that India was declared independent from British colonialism, and the reins of control were handed over to the leaders of the Country. India's gaining of independence was a tryst with destiny, as the struggle for freedom was a long and tiresome one, witnessing the sacrifices of many freedom fighters, who laid down their lives on the line.

Independence Day of Pakistan, observed annually on 14 August, is a national holiday in Pakistan. It commemorates the day when Pakistan achieved independence and was declared a sovereign state following the end of the British Raj in 1947.
Pakistan came into existence as a result of the Pakistan Movement, which aimed for the creation of an independent Muslim state in the north-western regions of British India via partition. The movement was led by the All-India Muslim League under the leadership of Muhammad Ali Jinnah. The event was brought forth by the Indian Independence Act 1947 under which the British Raj gave independence to the Dominion of Pakistan which comprised West Pakistan (present-day Pakistan) and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).

Muslim Community Happy Islamic New Year.
First, to Victorian Muslim community and worldwide, we wish you peace and happiness as you are including me, commemorate the Islamic New Year 9th August 2021
I understand that Victoria multicultural and multifaith communities have faced their own unique set of challenges and sacrifices during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
Once again, this year and last year’s celebration looked a little different with a strict ban on household gathering. I think all Victorians are celebrating with us because staying apart keeps us together.

The first month of the Islamic lunar year is known as Muharram (9th August 2021) and the very first day of this month is known as the Arabic or Islamic New Year. It is also known as the Hijri New Year which brings us back to 622 CE and the Hijra, exodus or journey of Prophet Muhammad along with his followers from Mecca to Medina.
The Islamic New Year or the Hijri Year began with the migration of Prophet Muhammad and his companions from Mecca to Medina in 622 AD.
The upcoming new year will be referred to as Hijri 1443 AH (Anno Hegirae in Latin or the year of the Hijra). It means that it has been 1443 years since Prophet Mohammed's migration.
To celebrate the Islamic New Year, no big celebrations are held in most Muslim-majority nations due to coronavirus (COVID-19). However, many declare a public holiday to commemorate the occasion, like the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.
