UKRAINE FUNDRAISING CONCERT

Last week I reported we had about 150 bookings. Well, we are now close to 250 but with a venue capacity of over 1000, we really want to fit a lot more people in especially as we are wanting to raise as much money as possible for this very worthy cause.

At this point, we are a bit disappointed that Rotarians make up a very small proportion of the tickets sold so far but we still have hope as we know how we traditionally book at the last minute. If you are in that category please do still book as it really will be a memorable event as you will see in the draft program below

The details are as follows:

Date:     Saturday 7th May 2022 at 3.00 pm

Venue: Melbourne Town Hall

Cost:     $25.00/person,  $10.00/child 12 and under.

If you can't make it you can still log on and make a donation. Or you can g

MUNA -  Model United Nations Assembly

Last week I advised that we have booked the Mercure Hotel for the weekend of Saturday and Sunday 18th & 19th June 2022. We have now got quite a few clubs advising they intend to sponsor a team so it is all looking good at this stage.

As well we now have good news on the National MUNA in Canberra. While on the trip up to the Albury Conference I had a call from a Canberra Sunrise Rotarian to advise that the reason they had delayed the decision was that apart from the complexities caused by Covid they also had the issue of the large fire at the event venue, being the Old Parliament House and they really didn't think they could run the event at another venue.  He had just been advised that the restoration will be done to a level that will allow for it to proceed in the old House of Assembly. So we can now confirm that the winning team of our assembly will be invited to attend the national MUNA.

it is our aim to try and get about 16 teams of 2 years 11 students from secondary schools around Melbourne.

Rotary District 9800 Conference 2022

Well, the conference has now been completed and it really was a great success. It was so good to be able to meet our rotary friends in person again after 3 years.

Our club was represented by Judy and I and Herbson and our Global Grant Scholar from Japan, Atsuya Tazoe.

Our club did get a brief mention when the clubs that had already donated to Rotary Foundation were announced.

Apart from the conference, it was also good to go to Albury again. It really is a good regional city with every facility that you could want and the conference facility being the Albury Entertainment Centre.

There is also plenty of talent there and it was good to see all the entertainment at the conference come from the local area.

Big News for next year's conference

The common practice at the end of every conference is for the District Governor-Elect to come onto the stage and announce where the next year's conference will be and do the big sell for it. Well, the big news is there is no conference next year.

Of course, this is not due to a lack of interest but because instead of it we will be having the International Convention

That's right instead of hosting about 500 from our district we will be hosting about 20,000 from around the world.  So please save the date of 28th to 31st May 2023. We have already been approached by the Rotary club of Wyndham and the Rotary Club of West Footscray to host a function together with a view of having a busload of 50 international Rotarians as our guests.
