President's Message

Last week we had another good Board Meeting well attended by over 70% of our membership. (I think that sounds more than saying we had 11 members)

Probably the most interesting fact that was given to members is that our President-elect is taking the plunge and is running for council for the Melbourne City Council. I very nicely offered to help her and didn't realize how much time it was going to take. As well our Past President, James Long is re-standing for Council at the City of Bayside so good luck to both of them.

This week it is back to our regular weekly meeting with a speaker. So I invite everyone to join us at this week's meeting. For decades we have been talking about Rotary's flagship project of ridding the world of Polio almost to the extent of almost being overhearing about any more. Well, I'm not over it. It will be good to get an update and hear direct from District's own representative for this project in Kitty O'Connor.

She will also speak about the awareness project of the End Rotary Now with Rotary on its "Walkwithus", Annual End Polio Walk.
Well, it was back to more Rotary Zoom meetings for me this week. I've had 4 this week.

  1. Saturday morning           -             District MUNA Meeting
  2. Saturday afternoon        -             District Membership Meeting
  3. Tuesday evening 7 pm -             District Youth Meeting
  4. Tuesday night 8.00 pm -             Batman Cluster Meeting

As I mentioned on Saturday morning was back to my weekly MUNA meeting. Susan and I are working away on that and hopefully, we have everything on track.

It's been a bit of an up and down week for me with MUNA. The down came when I spoke to Brett Lefebvre who had been my MUNA partner for about 10 years to discuss MUNA and he was actually quite discouraging. As a teacher at Sacred Heart College in Kyneton, his view is that with all the screen time the students have been going through this year with online teaching they just won't be in the headspace to spend a weekend on another Zoom meeting in December. He may have been speaking more about his personal situation as he is retiring at the end of this year.

There have been a few positives though. When I mentioned this to the District Youth Meeting, Julie Mason said to be positive and that she is pushing the project hard from her end.

At the Membership meeting, we were at times split into small groups which included Tracey Farnsworth in my group. In conversation, it became apparent that she has very close contacts in Vanuatu and felt she could source a MUNA team from there.

During the week I had emailed a few international clubs and today I got a response from the Rotary Club of Wellington to advise they will try and put 2 teams in.

As well a few other clubs have given positive feedback that they will try and get a team.

Since our Board Meeting, I gave a couple of little jobs for Ida to follow up with which she has done and she is reporting back to the club at this week's meeting.

This brings us to what is coming up.

This week's quote is from Albert Einstein:

““Men marry women with the hope they will never change. Women marry men with the hope they will change. Invariably they are both disappointed.””

Have a great week everyone!
