I hope you got to see our member's Herbson Singo's talk last week about himself. You really missed something if you didn't. Herbson really prepared very well with a good PowerPoint presentation

He really had an interesting story about his early life in Malawi and how he was brought up without a father almost from birth and so is very grateful to his mother who is still in Malawi. He is now living in Melbourne with part of his family and working as a Social Worker but is really working hard to get his whole family back together again in Melbourne.

In the end, he set out a vision he has to help his community in Malawi by building a full-on Wellness Centre on a very large block of land that he and his wife have already purchase for that purposeless than 10km from the centre of the Capital City, Lilongwe. I put my hand up to help come up with a concept, Masterplan for it and I dobbed in the club's other Architect, Kammy Leung so let's see what we come up with. Probably, the most moving thing for our members was when Herbson pointed out that one of the most significant Rotary moments for him was on the day of induction when everyone came up and congratulated him in a way he could see was truly genuine.

RIMERN    (Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network)

Last week I mentioned that our club had Sainab and Rahma do the Tuesday shift and Larry, Ted, Judy and I did the Saturday afternoon shift just before the Grand Final (Though I don't know of any Melbourne Supporters in our club if you are one the congratulations. As a St.Kilda supporter I have to admit my only emotion relating to the win is one of sheer jealousy).

3hrs doesn't sound like a long shift but talking for the Saturday shift I can assure you we were all pretty worn out at the end of it which could be partly a reflection of our average age which is in excess of 70.

Having visited there not that long ago before it all kicked off it was actually quite staggering to see how much had been done with the building already packed to the rafters.

At the moment we only roster for Saturdays and Tuesdays and for morning and afternoon shifts (10.00 am to 1.00 pm and 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm). We are wanting people to commit to doing a 1/3hr shift per fortnight. They are looking at having groups of 4 for each shift

Please note Volunteers do not need to be Rotarians. (That doesn't mean there won't be the same stack of red tape involved in checking volunteers before they start but we have to be careful). Whilst we are in lockdown all volunteers will be provided with a Covid Safe Worker's Permit. If you are interested please contact Judy Page on 0425 741 624.
