President's Message

Last week's meeting Gabe Hau updated us about the Rotary Peace Academy that was created by the Institute for Economics & Peace. It was enlightening to learn the methodical way they can rate the level of peace every country in the world is at. Iceland came out number 1 and New Zealand 2 and Australia was about 13 out of about 200 countries. USA was in the wrong half of the field and of course countries like Iraq and Somalia were right down the bottom.

He told us about being a Peace Building Club which didn't seem too onerous so I think we should discuss it at our next Board meeting.

We are now right into the "Walkwithus", Annual End Polio Walk which runs right through October.

So far our club team has raised about $400.00. These funds have come from myself, Judy, Andrew, Larry, and Ida. As well our member Ted Dziadkiweicz has set up his own team and has raised over $1,250.00 plus with Susan Robbs's individual entry means our club is responsible for about $2,000.00 so far.

There is still plenty of time for others to either join in or log in and sponsor our team as Sainab and George have.

Here is the login page where you register https://www.rotarywalkwithus.org/

Susan Robb has continued our monthly contribution to Ozanam House, actually with a 2-month handover this week. Well done to Susan on keeping the variety going with this great array of items which have been influenced by feedback from Louise Augustinus

One of this year's commitments for our club is to continue with the Scholarships at Simmons College. Well, this week we have received the documentation from District for the Year 11 & 12 Scholarship Grants. So I think Ted will be following up on this to apply for the grant.

Some members may have got an email from Past member and Past President, Maggie Goodge updating us about Marj Hess to say she is home now but still has some radiation and chemotherapy ahead of her. We could not provide flowers to her in the hospital but have now delivered her flowers and a card from our club. Judy personally took them over to her house and happened to run into Marj who was just finishing a walk when she arrived.

There has been more activity with MUNA this week as well with Committee member from Wyndham Harbour RC , Rosemary Kinyua back from bereavement leave and working with Susan Robb following up clubs. Gabe Hau has posted a promotion for the event on the Rotary District 9800 Youth Facebook Page.

Also, I have an accepted an invitation from the Melton RC to be a guest speaker about MUNA on 17th November 2020
