Last week's meeting was a bit different from the norm. Our speaker Dave Berman's topic was "Discovering our Mental Immune System" but he used a different approach that involved everyone laughing for extended periods of time and discussing how it all felt for them with a view that people would realize the actual physical and psychological benefit from it. It was quite an experience to see everyone on the screen laughing really for no reason at all. We had people laughing from all over the world as again we had visiting Rotarians from about 8 different countries. As well we also had our own District Governor, Dale Hoy visit us for a while at the start of the meeting and it was great for our members to see him at our club again as he was only recently our Assistant Governor and so we have a very good relationship with him.

I actually accepted a meeting invitation over the weekend to be a visiting Rotarian at Club's District Governor's visit. The meeting was actually on last Sunday at about 7.45 pm and the club was the Rotary Club of Seguku in Uganda. With the time difference that made their meeting closer to midday for them.

They are a fairly new club starting about 4 years ago and have about 30 members. As you can see from the shot above they had about 50 attend their meeting. They run their meeting much more formally than we do or at least then we do now. As you can see they had a formal agenda on the screen for all to see with different members doing Grace, the Loyal Toast to His Excellency the President of Uganda, The Four-Way Test, and even the Objects of Rotary. Still, at the end of the day, it was clear they do very good work in their community. Their District Governor was Young Kimmaro and she was born in South Korea, educated in the USA, and now lives at the foot of Mt Kilimanjaro. She s a very impressive lady with a background in business and as an actress. She spoke very well to the members and for me, it was good to get an insight into another club so far away from where they have to address issues of some parents only being able to afford to send one child to school and how this results in many more girls than boys missing out on an education and so they have programs to get the girls to school as well.

James Long has been in contact with Frances Tobin about the Phonse Tobin Volunteer Awards and it has been agreed by all that due to Covid restrictions that they will be cancelled again this year.
