Well, my Presidency is almost over.

Last week was a very good in-person meeting. We have been waiting for a while to hear the story of Sainab and her son Khalid's trip to Africa earlier this year.

Well, it really was worth the wait. Her story was very well prepared and Sainab presented in a very engaging way as well. It was hard to get a sense of what it really is like to live in these countries but it was clear from Sainab's description that is not like anything we experience her and in fact we have no idea what life is like over there. During Question time her son, Khalid also gave an insight into his "younger" point of view as well.

One thing that did come out was that as much as they presented a life there that did not appeal to us it was clear that they still hold a strong attachment to it and they have a strong desire to improve conditions there as much as they can. Anyone listening could not help but want to assist her to do that and no doubt during her upcoming year of presidency opportunities are bound to arise.

Sainab was also supported by 2 other Somalian ladies and her Nephew, including the current president of the Somalian Women's Development Association, Khadijo Ali Hashi. Khadijo also got up and shared some of her personal experiences from living over there and they were both chilling and moving. She is also a very impressive lady and I hope we see a lot more of her at our club.

We actually had excellent attendance at the meeting.

Apart from those I have already mentioned we also had Judy & I, Susan & Larry, James & Cheryl,  Andrew, Ted, Ida, Kammy, Kate Strain, and Herbson also attended.

Last week I wrote we agreed to contribute $300.00 to the Cosmos Erode Rotary Club in India to purchase 20 body bags. Well, we made the payment. I received a personal message confirming receipt of the money as well as these shots relating to the program.

Also, in last week's newsletter was the article that got published in the North West Melbourne paper.

Well, this week I received a message from Sainab with a photo of her thumb holding the latest issue of the other local paper being the North West City News. So no one can say our club doesn't get in the news.

Before I finish here is this week's humour section.

I asked the corporate wellness officer, “Can you teach me yoga?” He said, “How flexible are you?” I said, “I can’t make Tuesdays.”

I can’t believe I got fired from the calendar factory. All I did was take a day off.

I have all the money I’ll ever need – if I die by 4:00 p.m. today.

I again I urge everyone to book for our Changeover. So far we have 17 bookings on Trybookings and so far I have been advised of about another 10 that will be attending so hopefully they will book soon. Actually, most of our members have booked already but not all so if you haven't booked please do so.

I can advise that apart from regular Changeover business, Sainab's year will get off to a good start with the Induction of a new member, Herbson Singo. We certainly look forward to adding him to our membership.
