President's Message

We had a very timely speaker last week being Steve Marantelli who gave us an excellent insight into the mysteries of how the US Electoral College Works. Now that as I write this it still seems a toss of the coin as to who will win and brings into stark focus the possibility of what might happen if like the last election their ends up being Faithless electors. We are being bombarded right now with the number of 270 being the number required to be president as that gives a majority out of the total of 538. But we learned in 2016 even though at the end of the election Trump beat Clinton 306 to 232 after the Electoral College submitted their votes it ended up 304 to 227 meaning 7 people voted for people other than Trump or Clinton. It could create a bedlam of that happens again this time.

All our members that listened in know that the final electoral college vote will take place on the 1st Monday after the 2nd Tuesday in December being 14th December this year.

Last week I mentioned we were considering changing our banker to Bendigo Bank and so I can advise I have a representative from the Carlton Branch coming to speak at our club next week.

For the last month I have mentioned the "Walkwithus", Annual End Polio Walk and it is now over and has been an unbelievable success. The event has raised over $120,000.00 which beats last year by over $100,000.00. Our club has done well but I do especially congratulate Ted for starting his own team which ended up topping the $3,000.00 mark.

I prepared another article for the local newspaper last weekend and submitted it. The "Walkwithus", Annual End Polio Walk effort has been featured as well as our MUNA Involvement.

I attended the District Morning Tea on Saturday and it went for 90 minutes filled with a series of interesting speakers. The speaker we had planned for this week has had to withdraw because his son has become very ill. But due to my attendance at the district breakfast, I was able to secure Betty Kitchener who will be speaking to us about the amazing ROMAC program. (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children)

This week's quote reflects our extended time at home.

"If it weren't for the fact that the TV set and the refrigerator are so far apart, some of us wouldn't get any exercise at all." Joey Adams

Have a great week everyone!
