Happy New Year

Last year we finished our Rotary Year off with a memorable Christmas meeting at the Mercure Hotel.

If you were there and you've forgotten already then maybe it wasn't so memorable. Perhaps these photos will remind you of the great night we had.

It really was great to get everyone together and especially our new friends from Ames as well it was very nice to host about 14 Afghan Refugees and show them some North Melbourne Rotary Club hospitality.

Of course to top it off how good was our guest speaker Shawn Cosgrove. He is a real professional and a great entertainer.

So now we come back to a new year and the way that covid has transformed into something new again we really don't know what to expect.

I am pleased to advise members that our club is hosting a young man for these awards and it comprises of a 6-day long course from the 13th to the 19th February 2022 held at Camp Getaway in Axedale.

His name is Tejas Gandhi and seems a  very highly motivated young man studying at Melbourne University and we look forward to hearing from him after he completes the course.

MUNA (Model United Nations Assembly)

Our club had committed to hosting MUNA this year as an in-person event around the end of May. It is for year 10 to 12 students and hopefully, circumstances still allow for this to occur. If anyone is able to assist with the organizing of this please contact Neville.  page@ghp.biz

RIMERN (Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network)

Our club was to volunteer this week but due to the state of covid at the moment it has been decided to suspend all volunteering at least until the end of the month. But be assured that upto now the program has been extremely active and successfully provided furniture to numerous families.

BBQs

As I already said we do not know what is ahead of us but if everything does fall our way we will have our big Moomba BBQ and then shortly after the Federal Election BBQ and in November will be the State Election BBQ.

Upcoming Speakers

Email notices were sent out yesterday correctly noting it as a Zoom meeting but the email subject name referred to it as an in-person meeting. Hopefully everyone will have figured it out.

Thursday 20th January 2022 at 6.45 pm on Zoom - Jalal Ahmadzai

Jalal is an Administration Officer - Innovation & Marketing at AMES Australia and is going to tell what life was like in Afghanistan before and after the Taliban and what it has been like for those that have had to escape the country as refugees so that we can have a better understanding of it.

I look forward to seeing as many as possible on the screen tomorrow night at our first zoom meeting of the year.
